I want to invite everyone to this beautiful place and meet a pura vida family struggling with medical costs.
Mr. Asdrubal, owner of the farm, "Tierra de Quetzales", lost his leg below the knee to gangrene 5 months ago. He needs physical therapy for 1 year. He's waiting for a prosthetic leg so he can learn to walk once again. Asdrubal and his wife, Maria, have limited financial resources.
The trail to the waterfall is between 2-3 kilometers and is easy. There is another trail that takes 4 hours total which goes to smaller falls. The family has trout, offers meals and they have a cabin. Their trout was delicious!
Please go there to meet and help this wonderful family, see the incredible landscapes and possibly see quetzals. This is an easy day trip from San Jose, Cartago or San Isidro de El General.
Tierra de Quetzales
Location: Tres de Junio, Dota
From Cartago take route 2 toward Cerro de La Muerte. 1 kilometer past the entrance to Paraíso Quetzal Lodge turn right on a gravel road. After 2-3 kms you come to an intersection. Take the road to the right and go downhill until the end. The road is in good condition. I use 4-wheel drive but no need to use low 4-wheel drive. From San Isidro, the gravel road is about 4 kms after Chespiritos #1 and you turn left.
