On the morning of Sunday, October 17, my cousin César, his wife Alina, their son Daniel, along with Alina’s coworker and another friend, left to a friend’s farm in Buenos Aires, Costa Rica.
The farm, owned by an American who had been living there for 15 years, was located in a remote area.
César was a mechanic and good friends with Mr. Sandusky, the owner of the farm. Cesar had agreed to drive out Sunday morning to help him fix his tractor. He invited his wife, son and friends to come along for a Sunday ride.
They were all expected to be back around noon, where they had planned a birthday lunch for César’s father, my uncle.
They never showed up.
After some time had passed and after numerous phone calls to all of them, my uncle, César and Alina’s youngest son; and Alina’s father decided to go looking for them, thinking that they had broken down and weren’t able to get help due to the location of the farm.
What they found instead was a horrific crime scene.
All of them had been brutally murdered, and their bodies badly burned.
We still don’t understand the motive, but robbery seems to be the primary lead at this point.
Cesar and his wife Alina leave behind two beautiful children, Maikel (15) and Sofia (17) who will now grow up without their parents and older brother.
We are asking anyone who would like to help with funeral expenses and a general fund for the surviving children to please donate. Even the smallest amount goes a long way in Costa Rica, where the financial effects of the pandemic are hitting especially hard.

La mañana del domingo 17 de octubre fue un día que cambió la vida de muchas familias.
Ese día; mi primo César, su esposa Alina, el hijo de ellos Daniel y dos amistades de la familia salieron temprano rumbo a la finca de Don Stephen Sandusky, en Buenos Aires de Puntarenas.
César había quedado en llegar para reparar una maquinaria de Don Stephen, ya que él era mecánico de profesión y buen amigo de Don Stephen.
Ese día se le planeó un almuerzo para el papá de César, Don Eladio, para celebrarle su cumpleaños.
Ellos tenían planeado salir temprano para llegar a mediodía, pero nunca llegaron.
Después de esperar y luego de muchas llamadas a todos Don Eladio, el hijo menor de César y Alina, y el papá de Alina salieron rumbo a la finca.
La finca de Don Stephen estaba ubicada en una zona muy montañosa y de difícil acceso, por lo cual ellos asumieron que talvez se habían quedado varados.
Lo que encontraron fue una horrible escena de crimen. Todos, incluyendo Don Stephen, fueron asesinados a mano fría y sus cuerpos estaban calcinados.
Aún no se sabe exactamente el motivo de tan macabro crimen, pero por el momento se está manejando como un asalto.
César y Alina dejan a su hijo Maikel de 15 años y su hija Sofía de 17 años, quienes ahora tendrán que aprender a vivir sin sus padres y su hermano mayor.
Estamos recolectando donaciones para ayudar a cubrir gastos fúnebres, así como un ahorro en general para la familia. Cualquier monto es bienvenido con manos y corazones abiertos.
