Friendship and Service; Pillars of the PZ Women's Club

Updated: Sep 10, 2021

The Pérez Zeledón International Women’s Club was formed in 2009 to promote friendship between English speaking women in San Isidro de El General, Pérez Zeledón, and through friendship to make a service contribution to our community.

Our Mission and our Vision Through our dual mission of offering a venue to make friendships within the English-speaking community and to make friends with our Tico neighbors through service projects, we offer our members the opportunity to satisfy their different needs, interests, and expectations of life in Costa Rica. Our service mission has three elements

  • Supporting club members by developing information and resources to help them achieve their Pura Vida in Costa Rica.

  • Being of service to the wider ex-pat community, in the simple belief ‘we’re all in it together' and the Club can be a positive asset to our fellow immigrants. The club provides seminars and informational booklets.

  • Making a positive contribution to our host Costa Rican community, through service projects. Ten years on, we’re very proud of our achievements:

  • Raising over $2.000 for Hogar Betania and giving them equally valuable professional and practical support

  • Developing a mobile library service for junior/elementary school children, which culminated in our donating over 1.700 books to over 1.200 children in 16 schools, many in isolated rural communities

  • Providing a monthly program of fun activities for girls at a local home, Hogar Madre Del Redentor

  • Supporting the Asociacion de Mujeres Generaleñas a wonderful voluntary organization that provides a range of support and development services for women who are victims of desertion or domestic violence

  • Responding to requests for other good causes or emergencies such as children needing clothes and food

  • The 2019-2020 project "Going to the Dogs" has provided 682 pounds of Dog food to shelters and has raised ¢1,000,000.00 or approximately $1,700.00 USD for veterinary services, neutering, and caring for stray animals.

  • Our current project Donatapa Pérez Zeledón which will re-launch at the local Feria September 16th, 2021 at 8:00 am. This project turns plastic tops into walkways to allow disabled people access to the local beaches.
