Many here in the Southern Zone knew the Benders or knew of them after John Bender's controversial death in 2010 .. here is a current article about his widow, Ann Maxine Patton Bender, Bender’s wife will be on trial for murder a fourth time. Of course, whether she will come back to Costa Rica to be retried ... or what will happen to their missing fortune, are questions still unanswered. 48 Hours did a very good episode on this case before her third trial ... check out this page to view the 48 Hours segment and read about the history.
