Mr. Alvaro Ugalde Víquez, one of the founding fathers of Costa Rica's National Parks, passed away at 69.
Alvaro Ugalde was a charismatic environmental leader who helped establish the Costa Rican National Park system. Fondly called by many "The Father of the National Parks of Costa Rica", a biologist, Don Alvaro worked relentlessly to educate Costa Ricans and others on the importance of a clean and healthy watershed and called for a new culture of water. He was a friend to many of us ... and to the Osa Peninsula which he loved passionately.
His funeral will be Tuesday, February 24th at 10:00am at la Funeraria del Recuerdo in Barrio Don Bosco.

Nearly nine months after a panel of Costa Rican judges found Ann Patton guilty of killing her wealthy U.S. husband in 2010 and sentenced her to 22 years in prison, she suddenly found herself a free woman on Thursday.

If you're planning to go from San Isidro to San José, please note that MUSOC and TRACOPA buses that use that route are taking an alternative mountainous road that adds ONE hour to the usual trip, arriving through Aserrí and the Desamparados área. This route is being used only by small vehicles and buses; big trucks are sent through the Costanera highway. Bus schedules are running at the usual timetables. If you're planning to drive instead, detour at La Sierra road and take extra care with the unusual terrain and the extra traffic.
Si está planeando viajar de San Isidro a San José, por favor tome nota de que los buses de MUSOC y TRACOPA están usando una ruta montañosa alternativa que le agrega UNA hora al recorrido usual, llegando por la zona de Aserrí y Desamparados. Esta ruta está siendo usada por vehículos ligeros y autobuses; los camiones grandes son enviados por la carretera Costanera. Los horarios de autobuses continúan con el mismo itinerario. Si por el contrario, está planeando manejar, tome la desviación por la carretera de La Sierra y ponga cuidado adicional con el camino poco usual y el tráfico adicional.

Osa Peninsula Route To Be Improved
Highway officials plan to make the route from Puerto Jiménez to Carate in the Osa peninsula an all-weather road. This is about 43 kilometers, and the job will take five of those metal bailey bridges.
